My name is Ivan Fabina, and this journey started for me approximately 10-12 years ago.
My history explains why I am adamant on health testing. Although all dogs, purebred or mixed breed, health tested or not, DESERVE a loving home, We strongly only encourage the breeding of health tested, Purebred (indicating pedigreed lineage) dogs. We also strive to educate others about responsible pet ownership which starts with responsible buying. Your actions of buying a dog, encourage or discourage a breeders future actions. This journey started when I purchased a Labrador Retriever, a family pet from a farm. He was a wonderful dog, Purebred with Canadian Kennel Club papers, but he was a very poorly bred dog. Throughout his life, he had drainage from his eyes, due to a inheritable disorder called Entropian, where the eyelids curled in on the eye, rubbing against the eye causing discomfort and requiring surgical intervention. His breeders did not do any health testing on their dogs, producing health issues that could have been avoided. Although he was a devoted, highly intelligent and wonderful dog, he passed away at 4 years of age, due to cardiac issues. This left me heartbroken, and devastated. While showing this dog, I met sheltie breeders who asked me to show their dogs and I fell highly fond of this breed. I was provided with the opportunity to own a sheltie, and everything developed from there |
